On Memorial Day, thousands of fitness centers hosted workouts for members to participate in the Murph WOD in honor of Michael Murphy, a Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient that was killed in Afghanistan in 2005. We wanted to enable some of our more introverted veterans and those who work out at home to tap in virtually as an effort to encourage more people to try the workout and hopefully connect some veterans in the process. The Overwatch Collective and Vet Rec had some incredible sponsors put together an awesome prize package consisting of a Squatch Survival Gear ruck bag, 2 pairs of Soledier Socks, an OTC Hoodie, and some Vet Rec Swag for one lucky winner who completed the WOD to the best of their ability and engaged with us on social media. In August, we collaborated with Idaho Back Country Veterans to embark on a journey up Borah Peak, Idaho's highest point of elevation. The group met at the trail head at a not so bright, but early 0400 to beat some of the traffic. They spent a gorgeous day getting to know each other and sharing stories about time in and talking about some of the issues we face as service members, veterans, and even as individuals working in the non profit sector. Some of these veterans still keep in touch today, planning more trips for the 2025 season.
